Certification: American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED
Learn how to effectively prevent and respond to water emergencies with the American Red Cross lifeguard training. Our courses are designed to arm you with the skills and knowledge to prepare you for a variety of scenarios in and around the water. With our lifeguard training, you will learn how quick response times and effective preparation are vital to being a lifeguard while also understanding the crucial elements in helping to prevent drownings and injuries.
The American Red Cross lifeguard training and certification are imperative to the process of getting hired on as an official Red Cross lifeguard. Our detailed training includes both testing of hands-on skills as well as comprehension on written tests. The certification, which includes First Aid, CPR and AED training, is valid for two years upon completion and is accepted nationwide. The American Red Cross is the most respected source for training and certification of this kind.
Prerequisites for lifeguard training include:
- Students must be at least 15 years old by the last day of class
- Students must pass a pre-course swimming skills test prior to taking lifeguarding courses
Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED
Certification: American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED
The Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED course incorporates the latest science and teaches students to recognize and care for a variety of first aid emergencies such as burns, cuts, scrapes, sudden illnesses, head, neck, back injuries, heat and cold emergencies and how to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies to help victims of any age – adults (about 12 years and older) and pediatric (infants and children up to 12 years of age).Students who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate for Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED valid for two years.
Wilderness and Remote First Aid
Certification: American Red Cross Wilderness and Remote First Aid
Designed for scouts and scout leaders, outdoor enthusiasts and anyone who works or spends time in remote environments, this course teaches advanced skills to be used in emergencies when help from professional first responders may be far away. Based on the Boy Scouts of America Wilderness First Aid Curriculum and Doctrine Guidelines, this course aligns with OSHA’s Best Practices for Workplace First Aid Training Programs.
Prerequisites for Wilderness First Aid training include:
- Students must possess a current CPR/AED certification.
- Students must be at least 14 years old by the last day of class
Paddle Safety Facilitator
Certification: American Canoe Association Paddle Safety Facilitator.
A Paddle Safety Facilitator is trained to do pre-paddling safety training. The facilitator goes over everything from how to plan a trip, what to pack, and how to respond if the unforeseen happens.
The American Canoe Association Paddlesports Safety Facilitator (PSF) certification program teaches basic safety and paddling knowledge, as well as simple rescue skills for canoe, kayak, and SUP. The training for this certification includes a base knowledge module (non-craft specific) plus three complementary modules that focus specifically on canoeing, kayaking, and stand up paddling (SUP). This certification allows the facilitator to introduce paddle craft safety and knowledge to the beginner paddler in a land-based setting.
Paddling courses are taught by an American Canoe Association Level 1 Canoeing and Level 2 Kayak Instructor.
Introduction to Canoeing
Introduction to Canoeing is a skills based canoeing class. Students will learn the basics of planning a day on the water, what to bring with them, and basic safety. They will then move onto the water to learn basic paddling strokes and maneuvers. This course is designed for flat, protected bodies of water.

Introduction to Kayaking is a skills based kayaking class. Students will learn the basics of planning a day on the water, what to bring with them, and basic safety. They will then move onto the water to learn basic paddling strokes and maneuvers. This course is designed for flat, protected bodies of water.
Introduction to Stand Up Paddleboarding
Introduction to Stand-Up Paddleboarding is a skills based SUP class. Students will learn the basics of planning a day on the water, what to bring with them, and basic safety. They will then move onto the water to learn basic paddling strokes and maneuvers. This course is designed for flat, protected bodies of water.
Our guided hikes will help familiarize you with the many trails throughout the State College area. We will also cover important hiking safety and planning steps for when you go out on your own and provide you with detailed steps on how to prepare for your adventure.
