A Paddle Safety Facilitator is trained to do pre-paddling safety training.  The facilitator goes over everything from how to plan a trip, what to pack, and how to respond if the unforeseen happens.

The American Canoe Association Paddlesports Safety Facilitator (PSF) certification program teaches basic safety and paddling knowledge, as well as simple rescue skills for canoe and kayak. The training for this certification includes a base knowledge module (non-craft specific) and craft (canoe and kayak) specific module. This certification allows the facilitator to introduce paddle craft safety and knowledge to the beginner paddler in a land-based setting.

In order to receive official credentialing documentation of this certification, participants must have a current individual American Canoe Association membership.

The cost for this program is $15 for CCF members and $25 for non-members. This does NOT include ACA membership that is required for official credentialing. An individual ACA membership costs $40 (payable directly to ACA).

Non-member registration will open on May 1.

The course will take place at Whipple Dam State Park on May 30 at the Lakeside Pavilion near the boat launch on the west side of the lake (on the opposite side from the swimming beach):

  • 10AM – 2PM Basic Safety and Paddling Knowledge
  • 2PM – 4PM – Craft specific skills*

Participants should pack a lunch, refillable water bottle, and be dressed for being out on the lake. Craft specific skills will require demonstrating in-water rescues, so participants should bring a towel and change of clothes.

*Participants who only need certification in one craft will likely finish early. Please add a comment to your registration if you only want to cover one craft.

CCF members will need to log in to get a discounted registration.
